I don’t think

we could ever forget

how it felt

when all our safe places

became so very unsafe

and a life in worship

became hell on earth

I don’t think

I did a good job

of forgetting my fear

and remembering the nine

without recalling the one

whose actions

made all of Charleston

weep.
